Irreecha festival at Lake Hora Harsadi, in Bishoftu, outside Addas Ababa, Ethiopia. The occasion is marked with a procession where celebrants hold freshly cut grass which they eventually throw into the lake to give thanks to Waaqaa (God). Over 4 million Oromo from across Ethiopia were said to come to the festival. The Oromo population in Ethiopia is approximately 35 million (1/3 the population of the country). The Oromos celebrate Irreecha to thank Waaqa (God) for the blessings and mercies they received throughout the previous year and to celebrate the end of the rainy season and welcome the harvest season.
